He has seen tremendous success throughout his career from starting as a classroom teacher to a building administrator role and now an assistant superintendent. Lisa Riggs joined Gresham-Barlow School District, outside Portland, Oregon, in 2018 as the assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and assessment. Prior to moving to Oregon, Riggs was the associate superintendent of academics/chief academic officer for San Antonio Independent School District in Texas and the executive director of gifted and talented/advanced academics for Washoe County School District in Nevada.

She was previously a bilingual teacher in an elementary school, where she taught grades K-6 for 15 years, as well as a high school special educator, academic coach, coordinator of services for multilingual learners, and administrator.

Amy Colton is a senior consultant for Learning Forward and Executive Director of Learning Forward Michigan. Amy’s work is influenced by her experience as a special education teacher and a district professional learning consultant. As a teacher-in-residence for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, she coordinated the development of the Board’s first teaching certificate.
