Based on Gary Howard’s work with numerous districts across the country, this session introduces you to the powerful, five-phased approach of Deep Equity—a unique, proven, capacity-building approach to cultural competence and culturally responsive teaching.
Learn how to challenge institutional biases and norms through systemic, ongoing, and collaborative equity work and courageous leadership. You will gain strategies to address the dynamics of power and privilege in a safe, engaging, and inspiring environment in which all educators are honored and valued as professionals.
You will learn how to:
- Define cultural competence and its connection to student outcomes
- Build a safe climate for open dialogue and constructive collaboration
- Explore issues of privilege, power, and difference
- Use the 7 Principles for Culturally Responsive Teaching to transform classroom teaching
